The Devil in the White City is a bestselling nonfiction book that follows many lives during one of the most exciting events in history, Chicago's World's Fair of 1893. The book juxtaposes the lives of two men in particular -- Daniel Burnham and H. H. Holmes. Burnham was a famous architect in charge of building the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893. The second, Holmes, was a diabolical murderer in Chicago who holds the title as America's first known serial killer. This book shows us once again that many beautiful innocent things hide something quite sinister. |
